Working for us

Who we are

We are a highly experienced, club quality learn to swim provider offering children’s swimming lessons. We are a locally established, family run team, running an inclusive setting. Led by Neil Bailey an ASA teacher who has taught for over 18 years, we deliver significant improvements during our lessons with swimmers ranging from hesitant non-swimmers to advanced and club level.  We teach 1000’s of children per year to swim during our holiday courses and weekly lessons, starting from 3 onwards.

What we do

We use proven methods honed by years of pool time experience, using club swimmers in the water to assist each swimmer, and experienced teachers and coaches poolside and in water to direct the teaching experience. If necessary we will teach one to one during lessons to help the swimmer improve. A quality swimming teaching experience is our aim at great swimming venues using small classes and dedicated teaching staff.

Who we are looking for

Our lessons are led by a Lead Teacher and run with two types of staff member on pool side. These are Swimming Teacher and Swimming Assistant, with each requiring different skills.
Swimming Teacher
Swimming teachers lead portions of the lesson and dealing with a range of ability throughout a block of lessons. Therefore we look for the following:
• Qualifications – at least a Level 1 teaching qualification
• Experience - At least 2 years previous teaching experience with a range of abilities, from beginners upwards
• Confidence – to lead lessons and a team of teachers and assistants
• Sense of humour – we work with young children, challenging children, children that test our patience. A sense of humour is a must as well as…
• Creativity – our lessons thrive on creative teaching; from having a special activity in the back of your head to thinking on your feet when the unexpected happens
• Safety – Holder of an enhanced CRB or be willing to undergo the necessary checks
• Commitment – To make our lessons work we need commitment from our team throughout the year

Swimming Assistant

Our swimming assistants are where most of our staff begin. They are there to assist in the running of lessons, to make the teacher’s job that much easier. We look for:
• Experience – while this role does not require qualifications we look for people who can swim. Not necessarily at a club level but an ability to swim is a must
• Progression – Our best assistants are those where this is part of a journey to become a teacher, preferable specific to teaching
• Confidence – to work with children of any ability, beginner upwards.
• Sense of humour – we work with young children, challenging children, children that test our patience. A sense of humour is a must as well as…
• Creativity – our lessons thrive on creative teaching and all our staff have to be able to think on their feet
• Safety – Holder of an enhanced CRB or be willing to undergo the necessary checks
• Commitment – To make our lessons work we need commitment from our team throughout the year

Inclusive swimming for everybody

Neil Bailey Swimming runs an inclusive setting. We will trial anyone in our term time and holiday lesson, no matter what their needs or ability are. This has allowed us to run lessons with siblings side by side, with mainstream children and those with additional needs in the same pool. We find, as teachers, this is the most effective way to teach children to swim.
In addition to this we have developed lessons specifically for Children with Additional Needs, building off our close ties with the Marlow Opportunity Playgroup. Through our time teaching we have run the following programmes:
• Under contract by Wycombe District Council and the local School Sports Partnership we ran top up swimming for a number of years. This programme was run during holidays, offering any child in year 6 who could not swim a week of free lessons. As a product of our work on this, Neil Bailey Swimming brought the needs of children with additional needs to the fore of all we do.
• Partnering with the occupational therapists, Leap Children’s Therapy, we have developed a series of holiday courses specifically to teach swimming to those children with additional needs
• We have now established parent and child lessons, building off our work with Leap and Marlow Opportunity Playgroup, and specifically designed for those children with additional needs, with a qualified SEN swimming teacher
So no matter what your child’s additional needs are, contact us and we can determine what is best for them.

Partner with us

Neil Bailey Swimming’s success has been possible due to our partners. From council run initiatives, such as the School Sports Partnership, through charities, such as Marlow Opportunity Playgroup, to outside organisations, such as LEAP Children’s Therapy, we have partnered with a number of organisations to expand the range of swimming we can offer.
Our approach to teaching is defined by two facts. It is a statutory requirement for the school curriculum to offer swimming to all 7 to 11 year olds. And yet the Amateur Swimming Association assesses that 200,000 children leave school unable to swim, with 40% never even offered lessons.
As part of this we are seeking to partner with any school or organisation that is interested in developing swimming for their community. Our end goal is to greatly increase the access to swimming for children, increasing the number of pools in schools, reversing the decline of the past 40 years.

So we at Neil Bailey Swimming are seeking to partner with organisations and schools to enhance swimming in the area. If you are interested in our business model please contact us.
